Why? Because by default when you don’t set goals your failure mechanism switches on.

The late motivational speaker and doyen of self-development psychology Earl Nightingale defined success as the progressive realization of a worthy ideal
Earl nightingale identified two parts to becoming a successful person.
The first part he says is making up your mind about what you really want to become.
The second part of succeeding is-making plans and working towards achieving what you want to achieve.
It is in the second part of succeeding that goal setting is crucial to bring any dream to fruition
In fact goal setting is the master skill of success. The very act of goal setting is what separates successful individuals from unsuccessful individuals.

There are seven steps to switching on your success mechanism by goal setting
Step #1. Decide exactly on what you really want in life
The starting point of success is you must know what you really want from life.
When you are clear about what you want from life then you are on the path to succeeding in any venture you set your heart on doing
Most people wish and hope for success. That is why most New Year resolution fails.
Making New Year resolutions without commitment is like have a dream with a without a deadline.
On the other hand when you set goals you give force to making your dreams come true
There are 4 major areas of your life you should set goals. You must set goals, for your career, financial obligation, health and social life
Setting goals is easy…. all you need is a pen and piece of paper. Spend some time to think about what you really want to achieve in the four major areas of your life
Don’t hold back when you are writing your goals…write down any ideas that comes to your mind
Step #2. Make a list of at least 10 goals you want to achieve in the likely future
The next step in your goals setting process is to go through the list you have made in step 1. You then prioritize and list the 10 most important goals you’ll like to achieve in the nearest future
Step #3. Write your goals in the present tense as if you’ve already achieved them
It’s very important that you write your goals in a positive present tense.
Why? You need to write your goals in the present tense because you’ll activate the subconscious mind to act on them.
By stating your goals with a positive present tense- you stimulate your subconscious mind to work inexorably at achieving your goals.
For example if your goals are to earn $150,000 next year you should write you’re with a statement like: “I earn $150,000 per year by December 31st 2014”
Step #4. Select the one goal that could make the greatest impact on your future
The next you want to do is achieve laser focus in achieving your goals.
In order to succeed at making your dreams …select one goals that could make the greatest impact on achieving your goals.
Pareto’s principle known as the 80/20 principle states that 20 percent of the tasks you do in a job contribute 80 percent of the output.
In order words there are few critical tasks that contribute to 80 percent of the output you’ll need to achieve a goal.
The same applies to goal setting. You should identify one goal that will have the greatest impact on accomplishing your dreams
As soon as you select this one goal- that will make the greatest impact on your future- make a list of seven things you could do to achieve this goal.

Step #5 organize the things you need to do by sequence, and priority
You see it’s important that you organize the things you need to do in sequence and then priority. Because by prioritizing you ‘ll be achieve the things you need to do faster. As a result you’ll accomplish your dreams faster.
The key to prioritizing your task is to take action on doing the most important task first. And doing your most important tasks until it’s completed.
Step #6. Practice mind storming
One of the best ways to accomplish a project is mind storming. Mind storming is a habit of looking at different ways to solving a problem.
The process is simple…
You practice mind storming by writing out on a sheet of paper as many ideas as possible to solve a problem.
Next you go through your list of ideas and you choose one idea that you can immediately act on to solve the problem
For example if your goal is to double your income from $50000 to $150000 you’ll write on a sheet of paper “what can do to double my income by $50000. Then you start to writing as many ideas as you can think about.
Many people find the initial part of this exercise difficult. However the practice of writing your ideas down becomes easier with regular practice
Step #7 Resolve to do something everyday to achieve your most important goals
The key to achieving your dreams is taking massive You see the more you take action on your goals the more your self confidence increase
As your self-confidence increase so does your self-esteem increase
The Chinese proverb by Lao Tsu says “ the journey of a thousand miles starts by taking the first step”
You need to take the first step to achieving your dreams by doing the most important things-that will move you in the direction of your goals daily
You need to commit to do something everyday to accomplish your dreams… once… twice…and as much as possible until you are successful
You must never accept failure as an option. Quitters don’t win. Winners don’t quit
When you resolve always keep your success mechanism switched on by setting goals.
